Course Description: 

 

Have You Ever Thought---What If I Was Lost In the Woods?  How Would I Start A Fire?  This course will teach you the basics of fire making.  Methods include:

 

  • Fire By Friction—Emphasis for Beginners on Bow Drill Fires (we will touch on Hand Drills)
  • How to make rope
  • What to do if you don’t have a knife and knife safety
  • Preparation for avoiding an emergency situation
  • Flint and Steel Techniques
  • One Match Fires
  • Fire Safety
  • Fire Use as a Tool

 

Cost:  $20 per person to cover material costs (payable by cash, money order, or check). 
Location / Time: We will be meeting at the Community Bonfire at 11:00 am.

 

Items to Bring:  A good Knife, Camera (optional), Notebook / pens / pencils (optional), Lunch, Water, Blanket to sit on (optional)

 

Bio:  Blake Davis has been to several of Tom Brown’s Survival schools (http://www.trackerschool.com/ ) as well as Earth Connection classes in Sommerville, VA -- http://www.earth-connection.com/ .   During the early 90s, Blake taught at youth and family camps affiliated with Tom Brown Jr.  He then attended college and currently holds a Masters Degree in Fisheries Management and Aquatic Ecology.  Blake has currently been refining his skills in primitive living.
