Start Time 11:00am

Meet at Community Bon-Fire area

Cost: $75.00  (includes basic materials and tools)
Sliding Scale applicable. If you can't pay the full amount, please pay what you can afford -- see below.

You will learn the basics of making stone tools from various materials. You will learn the four rules of knapping (and some of the exceptions!!) How to find your own material and make many types of knapping tools.  Several Styles of knapping and several methods of knapping. I will cover basic knapping terminology (biface, flake, reduction, platform, centerline, flake scar, percussion, etc.) Cordage, pecking and grinding, and other skills will be touched upon.  Basic tools and materials will be provided.

Bring a notebook, lunch and drink, and your desire to learn. I always teach a jam packed hands on seminar. Basic instruction will end late-afternoon but I will stay until late evening to continue to teach and help anyone interested.

For $75.00 the student will receive their own knapping kit consisting of:
1.) 3' X 3' canvas lap cover
2.) large rubber pad
3.) small rubber pad
4.) small copper billet
5.) large copper billet
6.) copper pressure flaker
7.) a variety of high quality flint and obsidian (approx. value $15.00)

This kit is yours to keep, take home and develop your skills. Just as a well made bow drill fire set will decrease the effort to make a fire by about 75%-- a good knapping kit will shorten the time and effort necessary to become a good knapper.

However, if someone has their own tools or would prefer to pick up a couple of sticks or rocks and use them, that is O.K. by me. I will provide some knapping materials and the same instruction and help them all I can. The cost: $45.00

Finally, If someone would prefer to bring their camera or notebook, attend the class, take notes, ask questions, and receive some hands on instruction. Then later go home and try to learn on their own, that's O.K. too. Cost: $30.00

So to recap:
fullblown seminar with tools, materials and instruction -- $75.00
bring your own tools, just material and instruction -- $45.00
Demonstration, lecture and instruction -- $30.00
