Experience winter firsthand and learn to stay alive and comfortable in Earth Connection’s three-day Winter Wilderness Survival class. Topics of instruction include basic principles of cold weather survival, cold weather survival strategies, dressing for the weather, winter fire (making, using, and living with), shelters applicable to the winter environment (including snow shelters like the Quinzee), making improvised snowshoes; useful wild plants available in winter; frostbite and hypothermia awareness and treatment, and more. Primitive, traditional, and modern techniques will be covered with the goal being to increase your skills, confidence and comfort in winter wilderness.

The Winter Survival Class will be held at Abram’s Creek Campground near Mount Storm, West Virginia to take advantage of snowfall not normally found at the Earth Connection’s School in northern Virginia. Facility descriptions are at their website (http://www.abramscreek.com/directions.html).
Accommodations: Class participants will be staying in a Abram’s Creek Tipi warmed by a small fire or in a winter shelter of their construction warmed by your body. The Abram’s Creek Lodge is available for a minimal additional cost for those not wanting the Full EC winter survival experience.
