The Windmill Cafe opened in August 2008 and is located just 1/2 mile from the famed thermal Mt. Storm Lake
recreational area.
Developed and operated by Joetta Watkins, this former dive shop turned diner / cafe has lots of charm, great home
cooked meals, excellent pizza, and it's home of the Special Sandwich -- a favorite among
local contractors. By springtime, there should be outdoor picnic tables and possibly weekend flea markets and antique events on the grounds and in the basement area of the cafe. Plans are to expand the existing structure to accommodate large groups by summer of 2009. This cafe is located very close to Mt. Storm Lake -- a thermal lake heated by a massive 1.6 Gigawatt coal burning plant. The waters of the lake are very swimmable from June through October, and during peak summer months, the water temperatures can reach the mid-90's. Popular with scuba divers, sail boats, jet skis, and power boats, this 3200 foot elevation man-made lake is quite a local attraction -- surrounded by 150 2 mega-watt wind turbines. |
